Fenerbahce drew first blood against Zalgiris after Tarik Biberovic paced the home team to an 89-78 win in Game 1 while veteran Nicolo Melli also played a vital role in subduing the Lithuanian side. Biberovic tied his career high of 26 points while 35-year old veteran Melli racked up 13 and 5 boards as Fenerbahce wiped out an early 9-15 deficit and led comfortably for the remainder of the contest.
Wade Baldwin amassed 17 points and 5 boards and Talen Horton-Tucker netted 15 in a fervent atmosphere, with noisy Fenerbahce fans galvanizing the team to a 51-33 lead early in the second half. Zalgiris responded with a 0-12 run but ran out of steam in the home stretch as the visitors shot a poor 5-of-22 from deep.
Nigel Williams-Goss lead Zalgiris on 24 points and Moses Wright added 19, but pack leader Sylvain Francisco shot 3-of-12 from the floor in amassing 15 points and 6 assists – 2 of which amounted to spectacular alley-oops for Wright to slam-dunk. The two teams meet again at the same venue in Game 2 on Thursday.
