Hapoel took another step towards qualifying for the postseason by downing defending champion Fenerbahce 95-80 at Arena Sofia 8888 in the Bulgarian capital on Tuesday. Hapoel improved to 22-13 in the standings while Fenerbahce dropped to 23-13. Hapoel could mathematically lock a top-10 finish as soon as tonight, depending on other scores, and now has the tiebreak advantage over Fenerbahce (1-1, +9)
Hapoel led 25-17 at the end of the first quarter, extending its margin to 51-38 at halftime and then again to 84-59 with over 6 minutes left, only allowing Fenerbahce to rally once the outcome was clear.
Dan Oturu led the winners with 23 points on 9-of-11 two-pointers. Elijah Bryant added 21, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, Vasilije Micic had 19 points while Antonio Blakeney got 17 for Hapoel. Wade Baldwin paced Fenerbahce with 22 points. Tarik Biberovic and Devon Hall each added 11 while Talen Horton-Tucker and Brandon Boston had 10 apiece for the guests.
