The Red Scare are on a mission to make up for what could have been in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
Trey Landers poured in a game-high 19 points to lead the University of Dayton alumni squad past House of Paign, 83-76.
Trevor Thompson (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Devin Oliver (10 points, 11 rebounds) each posted double-doubles, and both Ryan McMahon and Ryan Mikesell scored 16 points apiece in the winning effort for Red Scare, which led by as many as 22 points and survived a 13-0 House of Paign run during the Elam Ending.
McMahon went 4-for-9 from three-point land in helping the Red Scare build the lead.
“They know that I can get hot in a hurry,” said the former Louisville guard. “I’ve got unselfish teammates. It’s whoever’s hot.”
Landers was clear that winning TBT wasn’t just about redemption for his lost senior season but about his hometown as well.
“[Fan support] means a lot,” said Landers. “It is about the money, but it’s also about the city.”
Andres Feliz registered a double-double, with game-highs in both points (17) and rebounds (14) in the losing effort for House of Paign, which went just 6-for-23 from beyond the arc.
After the win, Mikesell only looked ahead to the next game.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” said Mikesell. “We’re excited to have another opportunity to play.”
Red Scare moves on to face the Golden Eagles on July 12th at 4:00 PM EST.
TBT features 24 teams of top professional, college alumni, and international basketball players competing in a single-elimination 5-on-5 tournament for a winner-take-all $1 Million prize. All games will air on ESPN networks beginning Saturday, July 4.
